Andreas Lüthi

Andreas Lüthi is a Swiss artist who lives and works in Uesslingen (Thurgau, Switzerland).
His work explores different ways of making time visible in painting. This research unfolds through three interconnected series: ORIGIN, SEDIMENTS, and TRUE STORY.
ORIGIN captures the moment of creation through a single, irreversible action on the canvas.
SEDIMENTS explores time as material accumulation, using layers of sand, pigment and mineral textures that evoke geological processes.
TRUE STORY records the passage of time through the continuous painting of numbers, continuing the conceptual path initiated by Roman Opalka (1931–2011).
Through gesture, matter and number, Lüthi’s work reflects on duration, transformation and the experience of infinity.
In 2024 he opened his own museum for contemporary art in Orsara di Puglia, Italy:

In October 2025, he inaugurated a Land Art project in Roccarainola near Naples.

Andreas Lüthi ist ein Schweizer Künstler, der in Uesslingen (Thurgau, Schweiz) lebt und arbeitet.
Seine Arbeit untersucht verschiedene Möglichkeiten, Zeit in der Malerei sichtbar zu machen. Diese künstlerische Forschung entfaltet sich in drei miteinander verbundenen Serien: ORIGIN, SEDIMENTS und TRUE STORY.
ORIGIN hält den Moment der Entstehung durch eine einzige, irreversible Aktion auf der Leinwand fest.
SEDIMENTS untersucht Zeit als materielle Ablagerung und arbeitet mit Schichten aus Sand, Pigmenten und mineralischen Strukturen, die an geologische Prozesse erinnern.
TRUE STORY dokumentiert den Verlauf der Zeit durch das fortlaufende Malen von Zahlen und führt damit den konzeptuellen Weg weiter, der von Roman Opalka (1931–2011) begonnen wurde.
Durch Geste, Materie und Zahl reflektiert Lüthis Werk über Dauer, Transformation und die Erfahrung von Unendlichkeit.
Im Jahr 2024 eröffnete er sein eigenes Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Orsara di Puglia (Italien):

Il suo lavoro esplora diversi modi di rendere visibile il tempo nella pittura. Questa ricerca artistica si sviluppa attraverso tre serie interconnesse: ORIGIN, SEDIMENTS e TRUE STORY.
ORIGIN cattura il momento della creazione attraverso un’unica azione irreversibile sulla tela.
SEDIMENTS esplora il tempo come accumulo materiale, utilizzando strati di sabbia, pigmenti e texture minerali che evocano processi geologici.
TRUE STORY registra il passaggio del tempo attraverso la pittura continua di numeri, proseguendo il percorso concettuale avviato da Roman Opalka (1931–2011).
Attraverso gesto, materia e numero, il lavoro di Lüthi riflette sulla durata, sulla trasformazione e sull’esperienza dell’infinito.
Nel 2024 ha aperto il proprio museo di arte contemporanea a Orsara di Puglia (Italia):
